Data sources
Refractive Insights aggregates data from public government sources, licensed industry surveys, and provider-reported figures. No single source is treated as authoritative on its own — figures are cross-referenced where multiple sources overlap.
Observed data vs. estimates
Every figure on this site is labeled as either observed (drawn directly from a primary source), modeled (derived by combining multiple sources), or estimated (a forecast or extrapolation). Charts and tables carry this label in their source line. We do not blend these categories without disclosure.
Normalization
Figures reported by different sources on different timeframes or geographic units are normalized to a consistent basis — typically calendar year and either state or metro-area level — before publication. Any adjustment applied (seasonal, population-weighted, or inflation-adjusted) is noted in the relevant dataset’s documentation.
Revision policy
Datasets are revised when source data is updated or corrected. Each dataset page shows a version number and a revision history. Material revisions that change a previously published headline figure are noted in the site’s revision log and, where relevant, flagged on any research that cited the earlier figure.
